allsopp&weir, London, UK

September 9th, 2006

London based artists, allsopp&weir will screen and discuss past projects investigating the affective dimension of contemporary political power and representation, including ‘…And While We Were on Air”, a video produced from BBC newsreaders’ breath; “Fly No Fly Zone” shot from a kite-mounted surveillance camera in London; and “Call to Prayer” a recent collaboration with an opera singer. They will also show and discuss some new work “To The Place or Being in The Place” using cut-up English and Serbian/Croatian language learning cassettes, “Pirate Radio” intervention into language and manifestos, and the ‘Reunion’ project developed by curators B+B – meeting points between critical art practices in the Southeast Europe and the UK.

allsopp&weir are Paul Allsopp and Andy Weir. They have been working collaboratively since graduating from an MA in ‘Contemporary Art and Theory’ at Goldsmiths College in 2003. They have since exhibited widely in the UK and internationally, including recently ‘London in Six Easy Steps’ at the ICA, London (2005). Previous exhibitions include ‘Utopia Station’ at the 50th Venice Biennale (2003), ‘Art of Survival’ at the 1st Prague Biennale (2003), residencies at London Metropolitan University (2004) and La Fabrik, Berlin (2004).
