Marija Popivoda
April 13th - 15th, 2010 > opening at 19h

Exhibition Heartware (Are we all cyborgs?) is Marija Popivoda’s work for her master’s degree, realized at the interdisciplinary studies, Digital art group (Belgrade Art Rectorate). The subject of her artistic research is the human heart, which is a functional context the artist links to a computer. Heartware is an implant, computer hardware which fictionally presents the central processor. A combination of an organic and electronic system, it functions in a sort of symbiosis whereby the physical energy of the hardware user in the shape of an impulse gets wirelessly transmitted to the computer. The idea of the exhibition is to present such a product, in a fiction-meets-pseudo-documentary manner.
The exhibition is made out of digital graphics, photomontages, and video clips, all of which conceptually deal with the problem of linking technology with the human body. On the other hand, the exhibition researches the probabilities of design and advertising entering the world of art and the phenomenon of simulation as a method of manipulation.
