The Nova Gallery
Opening on December 22nd, 2011, starting at 19h
“When I started painting in the seventies, I believed that my painting would be seen and conquered the world. I tried to discover secrets, always close to delusion, and every move was a contemplation of life, mood, madness, lie or truth. They the nineties came and brought evil. In those years for me, it was immoral to close in the studio, to wonder about moves, color, painting form, to exclude from daily flows. I left brushes and founded the Led art group. We put ethics above aesthetics. I recently started painting again. I can not explain why. Perhaps because I always believe in the utopia that art can heal and change the world.”
Nikola Džafo was born in 1950, Novi Sad. He graduated from painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Belgrade, 1978, and received his master diploma in 1981. Since 1990, he has been passively engaged in painting and is the most active in the struggle for social values and artistic dignity. He is the founder of the LED ART group (1993). He co-founded the Center for Cultural Decontamination in Belgrade (1995) and the Multimedia Center “Led art” in Novi Sad (2000). In the same year, he started the Art Clinic, with the utopian idea that art can change and heal the world. He lives and works in Petrovaradin.
The exhibition will last until the end of January 2012.
